DataFast Importer
Available on every plan, including Free. The DataFast importer is a one-shot tool that brings your DataFast history into Zenovay, so switching does not cost you your past numbers.
What this does
- Reads daily visitors, pageviews and sessions from DataFast for the range you choose, up to three years per run.
- Reads breakdowns for pages, referrers, countries, devices, browsers, operating systems, regions, cities and UTM source / medium / campaign, stored as monthly snapshots.
- Reads bounce rate and average session duration per month, which DataFast cannot report per day.
- Writes everything into Zenovay's
analytics_dailytable withimported_from='datafast', so imported history stays distinguishable from data Zenovay tracked itself. - Defaults to Fill gaps only, which never writes over a day you already have — so running an import alongside live tracking cannot double-count your traffic.
What this does NOT do
- It imports bounce rate and average session duration per month, not per day — DataFast cannot report either daily. A month's figure is applied to that month's days, which is sound for a rate and an average (averaging them back returns the month's figure) but means a single-day view shows the month's number.
- It does not import revenue, payments, goals or funnels.
- It does not import individual visitor sessions — only daily aggregates and breakdowns.
- It does not import realtime or hourly history.
- It does not sync continuously. This is a one-shot migration; run it again whenever you want to top up.
Prerequisites
- A Zenovay account on any plan, including Free.
- A DataFast account with the site you want to import.
- One DataFast API credential (either type works — see below).
Your key is never stored. Zenovay uses the key only for the duration of the import request and never writes it to the database. It is also scrubbed from any error message before that message is saved. Revoke it in DataFast as soon as the import finishes.
Which key do I need?
DataFast issues two kinds of credential, and the importer accepts both.
| Credential | Prefix | Where to create it | What Zenovay does with it |
|---|---|---|---|
| Website API key | df_ | Website settings → API | Reads that one site directly |
| Account API token | dft_ | Account settings → API | Finds the matching site by domain, then reads it |
If you use an account token, Zenovay lists the sites the token can see and matches the one whose domain equals this Zenovay site's domain (ignoring www.). If no site matches, the error names the domains the token can see, so you can tell immediately whether you pasted the wrong token or the domains genuinely differ.
Step-by-step
1. Create an API key in DataFast
For a single site, open Website settings → API in DataFast and create a key (it starts with df_). For an account-wide token, use Account settings → API instead (it starts with dft_). Copy it — DataFast shows it only once.
2. Open the Import tab in Zenovay
Open Domains, select your site, then go to the Import tab and click the DataFast tile.
3. Paste the key and choose how much history
Paste the key, then pick a range: 30 days, 90 days, 12 months, 2 years or 3 years. Every option ends yesterday, because today is still in progress and importing it would record a partial day as a full one.
4. Leave "Fill gaps only" on
This is on by default and is the safe choice. With it on, Zenovay only writes days where you have no data at all — live tracking and any earlier import are left untouched, so the two can never be added together. Turn it off only when you deliberately want DataFast's numbers to replace what is already there.
5. Start the import
Click Start import. It runs in the background and the screen shows the current stage — finding your site, fetching daily totals, fetching breakdowns (with a month counter), then saving. You can leave the page; the import keeps going.
6. Review the result
When it finishes you'll see how many days were imported and how many were skipped. A skipped day is not an error: it means you already had data for it. If every day was skipped, the summary says so explicitly — nothing was missing.
7. Revoke the key in DataFast
Once you're happy with the result, delete the key in DataFast. Zenovay does not need it again.
Where imported data shows up
Imported days appear in your traffic chart, in the visitors, sessions and pageviews totals, and in your history exactly like tracked days, marked with the DataFast origin.
Breakdowns are stored per month rather than per day, because DataFast reports them for a range rather than for each day. They appear in the Country, Browser, OS, Channels and Campaign panels, where each month's snapshot is counted once for the month it represents — counting it once per day would multiply every figure. A window that covers part of a month therefore shows that month's totals, not a slice of them.
Troubleshooting
"DataFast key must start with df_ or dft_"
The value pasted is not a DataFast credential. Check for a copied space or a truncated key.
"No DataFast website matches ..."
Your account token works, but none of the sites it can see has this Zenovay site's domain. The message lists the domains it found. Either import into the matching Zenovay site, or paste the DataFast website ID into the site-ID field under advanced options.
"Unauthorized: Invalid API Key"
The key was rejected by DataFast. Regenerate it and try again. If you are using an account token, confirm it still has analytics:read permission.
"DataFast returned no traffic for the requested window"
DataFast has no data in that range — usually because the site was created more recently than the range you chose. Pick a shorter range.
The import says 0 days imported
Check the skipped count next to it. With Fill gaps only on, zero imported and a non-zero skipped count means you already had every one of those days, which is the guard doing its job.
Numbers differ slightly from the DataFast dashboard
DataFast groups days in your website's own timezone, and Zenovay stores the same calendar day it reports, so the days line up. Small deltas can still appear because the two products filter bots differently. The imported_from='datafast' marker lets you compare like for like.
Distinguishing and removing imported data
Every imported row carries imported_from='datafast' on analytics_daily; data Zenovay tracked itself has imported_from=NULL. Re-running an import UPSERTs by date, so repeating it is safe and refreshes rather than duplicates. To remove it, open the DataFast tile and use Delete imported data — native Zenovay rows are untouched.
